Kris Pineda completed his Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA, 2012) and Masters of Music (MM, 2009) in piano performance at the University of Texas at Austin Butler School of Music, studying with renowned concert pianist Anton Nel.  During his time at UT-Austin, Dr. Pineda worked as a full-time graduate assistant and received advanced training in piano pedagogy from Sophia Gilmson and Martha Hilley.  A native of Illinois, he received his bachelor of music degree from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (SIUE) where he studied with Dr. Linda Perry.

Dr. Pineda has performed piano recitals throughout the United States in such venues as Weill Hall in Carnegie Hall, the Touhill Performing Arts Center in St. Louis, and the Sheldon Concert Hall. Furthermore, he is equally at home as a collaborative artist, keeping a busy schedule of performance in a wide variety of chamber music situations. Dr. Pineda has served as Director of Keyboard Studies at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where he taught applied solo and collaborative piano at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Discography includes CD recordings of Kimberly Archer’s Concerto for Piano and Wind Ensemble (Mark Masters), “Low Blow: Student Favorites for Bass Clarinet and Piano,” and most recently, “Bulgarian Sketches – Works for Cello by Bulgarian Composers.” (Gega New).

An avid multi-instrumentalist, Dr. Pineda is also active as a brass player and accordionist. He has served as musical director and pit musician (keyboards/accordion, trombone, and French horn) for numerous productions. He currently plays euphonium in the St. Louis Brass Band, trombone in the Compton Heights Concert band, and has performed in orchestras and chamber groups in St. Louis and Austin, Texas areas.

Dr. Pineda currently teaches private lessons in both classical piano and brass. He is also an active piano tuner and technician with experience tuning and servicing pianos for such venues as Christ Church Cathedral, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, recording studios in the St. Louis area, schools, churches, and private clients.
